Renee Fleming, a performance at 'Binyanei Hauma' will legitimize apartheid and the construction of settlements on occupied land!

Dear Renee Fleming,

We are a group of Israeli citizens. We would like to inform you of a few important details.

The venue which has been selected for your concert in Jerusalem, Binyanei Hauma, is owned by the Jewish Agency and the Jerusalem municipality (http://www.jpost.com/LandedPages/PrintArticle.aspx?id=211329).

The Jewish Agency has been a key player in Israel's violent colonization project throughout the occupied West Bank (http://www.jafi.org.il/JewishAgency/English/Aliyah/Absorpton+Options/Bayit1/Regional+Councils/bayitemekjordan.htm).

The Jerusalem Municipality is a racist authority which demolishes Palestinian homes in East Jerusalem, and severely discriminates against Jerusalem's Palestinian population (http://www.hrw.org/en/reports/2010/12/19/separate-and-unequal-0).

"We’re going to arrest you, but it’s difficult with you because all you do is talk.”
- Israeli soldier to Palestinian organizer Mohammad Othman, 2009

We, Israeli citizens, members of Boycott![2], hereby reiterate our support and promotion of the Palestinian Call for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against Israel, until it complies with international law and universal principles of human rights[3]. We declare this in spite of the new legislation by the Israeli Knesset, which aims to penalize our and our partners' activities, curbing freedom of speech and political organizing and most importantly – banning Israeli citizens from acting according to their conscience when it conflicts with the deplorable policies of the state.

Sanrio, PLEASE FOLLOW MUJI AND REFRAIN FROM OPENING HELLO KITTY STORES IN APARTHEID ISRAEL !

To: The President and board of directors of the Sanrio company,

Dear Sir/Mme

We are a group of Israeli citizens. We support the Palestinian civil society call for boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) against Israel's policies. We find it deeply regrettable that your company has decided to cooperate with Israeli franchiser Leader Brands and open a Hello Kitty store in Givatayim, followed by the opening of stores in other Israeli cities. Your decision comes at a time when Israel intensifies its brutal occupation and apartheid policies against Palestinians, while ignoring hundreds of the UN resolutions.

The Jerusalem Film Festival foreign office has confirmed that legendary basketball star and actor Kareem Abdul-Jabbar reversed plans to visit Israel due to concerns arising “after the Nakba Day violence.”

Abdul-Jabbar was slated to present his film, “On the Shoulders Of Giants,” at the festival next month, as a candidate for the “Spirit of Freedom Award ." According to YNet News, his visit was scheduled in coordination with the Israeli Foreign Ministry and the Israeli Consulate of New York.

Joint Letter to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

June 28th, 2011

Dear Kareem Abdul-Jabbar,

We are writing to commend you for your principled decision not to attend the Jerusalem Film Festival in response to “concern over the Nakba Day violence,” as indicated by the festival’s foreign office. Indeed, Israel’s brutally violent suppression of peaceful Palestinian youth demonstrations and its shoot-to-kill policy during the Nakba Day protests, in particular, should convince any person of conscience not to lend his or her good name to institutions that divert attention away from Israeli state brutality and human rights violations.

FROM ISRAELI CITIZENS - SHAKIRA AND GERARD PIQUÉ, PLEASE SING FREEDOM FOR PALESTINE INSTEAD OF ENDORSING SHIMON PERES AND ISRAELI APARTHEID!

Dear Shakira and Gerard Piqué

We are a group of Israeli citizens and residents, Jews and Palestinians; many of us have been fans of your music.

We recently learned that you have been invited to the Israeli Presidential Conference. We hope that you will allow us to explain why you should refuse to participate in international cultural events facilitated by the Israeli establishment and its most senior leaders.

Vanessa Mae, please don’t choose the side of the oppressor!

Dear Vanessa Mae,

We are a group of Israeli citizens who support the human rights-based Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) and the BDS movement  ([1] http://www.pacbi.org , http://www.bdsmovement.net/)

As the international media tends to show only a partial picture on the situation in Israel/Palestine, we are concerned that you may not be entirely aware of how problematic performing in Apartheid Israel is.
