A letter to Professor Sigmund Grønmo, Rector of Bergen University
January 31, 2010
Dear Professor Grønmo,
We are a group of Palestinians and Jews, citizens and residents of Israel, who are struggling to end the Israeli occupation and oppression of the Palestinians. We are writing to you in order to support your courageous decision to allow an open debate regarding the possibility of a boycott of Israeli academic institutions. Following PACBI’s Open Letter to your university community, urging you all to boycott the Israeli Academy,[1] we too wish to encourage you to seriously consider responding positively to the Palestinian call for an Academic and Cultural boycott of Israel[2] and implementing their request for a comprehensive academic and cultural boycott of Israeli academic institutions. We fully endorse PACBI’s request that you “declare that Israeli universities cannot be considered normal partners in the pursuit of academic endeavors, so long as they continue to collude in the perpetration of human rights violations and, in some cases, war crimes”.
We, Palestinians, Jews, citizens and residents of Israel, struggling to end the occupation and oppression of the Palestinians are distressed to learn that a gala is to be held for Israel in Stockholm, celebrating “the Israeli democracy”.
To the Initiators of the Cairo Declaration,
We, members of BOYCOTT!, would like to express our vote of support for the "Cairo Declaration", issued by the Gaza Freedom Marchers on January 1st, 2010. We are proud to stand together with fellow responsible citizens of the world and reiterate our shared commitment to demanding human rights for all and respect for International Law.
We, Israeli citizens, activists and supporters of BOYCOTT! Supporting the Palestinian BDS call from within, an Israeli group in support of of boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel, applaud faculty members at the University of Trondheim and University College of Sør-Trøndelag in Norway for their principled support for the cause of justice in Palestine by proposing a motion to boycott Israeli universities. We support this historic step in the direction of applying effective pressure on Israel and holding it accountable for
BOYCOTT! has joined a growing list of individuals and organizations in supporting the call to protest the Toronto International Film Festival's City-to-City Spotlight on Tel Aviv. The declaration can be found here along with a list of supporters.
