Dear Chan Marshall,

We are members of the Israeli group Boycott from Within, a group of citizens and residents of Israel who stand in solidarity with the Palestinian Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement and supports the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI).
 
Thank you for your courageous act of conscience. We know that the decision to cancel your show in Tel-Aviv was a difficult one, but we hope you can find strength in knowing that you have made an important contribution to a growing movement for equality for all people. 

We know that in the short time since you canceled, you have faced a horrible backlash calling you a hypocrite and worse. But there is nothing hypocritical about doing the right thing. The call to boycott Israel is a civil society initiative by the people oppressed by Israel, many of whom living under the direct governance of Israel, and is rooted in the principle of human rights for all. Those who chastise you will insist that your act was a provocation rather than an empathic response to a call by the oppressed. But this is because responding to the calls of the oppressed is something that very few people will do. You should feel pride in your display of solidarity, which gives strength to so many people.
 
In his statement of support for BDS, Roger Waters wrote: "Artists were right to refuse to play in South Africa's Sun City resort until apartheid fell and whites and blacks enjoyed equal rights. And we are right to refuse to play in Israel until the day comes -- and it surely will come -- when The Wall of occupation falls and Palestinians live alongside Israelis in the peace, freedom, justice and dignity that they all deserve." Indeed, it is a true act of conscience to listen to the oppressed and allow them to lead their movement for liberation from apartheid and for equal rights.

We can only imagine how difficult this decision must have been and would like to express our gratitude to you for publicly taking a stand. It means a lot. Thank you for your decision to stand with those striving for a more just and peaceful tomorrow. Your solidarity gives us hope for the future.
